Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the endogenous immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin. Developed in Russia, it has been studied extensively for its anxiolytic, nootropic and immunomodulatory properties.
Key Research Areas
- Anxiolytic effects without sedation or dependence in preclinical models
- Modulates GABA-A receptor activity โ studied as a benzodiazepine alternative
- Increases BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) expression
- Studied for cognitive enhancement and memory consolidation
- Immunomodulatory effects โ regulates IL-6, IL-1ฮฒ and TNF-ฮฑ
Mechanism of Action
Selank modulates the GABAergic system and increases BDNF levels in the hippocampus and cortex. It also regulates enkephalin metabolism, contributing to its anxiolytic and mood-stabilising effects.
