DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a naturally occurring neuropeptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood during slow-wave sleep. It has been studied for its effects on sleep architecture, stress response and neuroendocrine regulation.
Key Research Areas
- Studied for induction and maintenance of delta (slow-wave) sleep
- Modulates stress response โ reduces ACTH and cortisol in stress models
- Studied for normalisation of disrupted sleep-wake cycles
- Antioxidant properties โ studied for neuroprotective effects
- Modulates GH, LH and TSH secretion in neuroendocrine research
Mechanism of Action
DSIP crosses the blood-brain barrier and modulates GABAergic and glutamatergic neurotransmission. It reduces the firing rate of stress-responsive neurons and promotes slow-wave sleep via hypothalamic and limbic pathways.
